Its the start of a new year and a new era for all people including myself. We hear people going on about new year resolutions and most people don't stick to them. This year its not really a resolution I am making it's just something I want to do and hope to achieve. This year my goal is to develop some of the games that I made throughout my college years and bring to a real game engine well to Unity anyway. I aim to build my 2D and 3D games but leave my text based ones to the side for the time being. So what game out of the long list am I going to make well lets start with "Blockizor".
Blockizor was a game built by myself and Gavin Flood during college in 3rd for an assignment for our Module Rendering Algorithms (Yes its as bad as it sounds). The game was coded in Javascript and was a canvas based game. So a little background on the assignment. So basically we had little under a week to build a 2D game using javascripts canvas. Not only did we have to learn how to do all this in less week but build a game so it was a bit of struggle. Through hard work and determination we eventually go there with Blockizor. It was ugly to look at and frustratingly difficult but it was fun and had a lot of places to expand on for future. The game was simple plat former with a twist. The player could manipulate the platforms randomly that they haven't stepped on yet. This made it challenging and sort of luck based as you had to plan accordingly which platforms to keep in position and which to move in your limited amount of uses of your power.
Overall the game had merit and could be easily converted to a mobile device and thus I have started with Blockizor. Throughout the year I will post some of my development on its transition to Unity and hopefully eventually to the App store. The image below is a look at what Blockizor looked like when it was completed for my assignment back in 3rd year.
